Data Files Available for Download or Lab Use

This page documents and provides access to various data sets available at UT-Dallas. They are primarily intended for use by students taking GIS classes but are made available on the web as a courtesy. Certain files are copyrighted. Many files are large! Data Download

• 1995 Street Centerline file from North Texas GIS Consortium (1 m positional accuracy)
  • DFW Centerline Shape File (24MB unzips to 65MB) 
  • Dallas County Centerline Shape File (15MB unzips to 40MB)   
• Dallas/ Fort Worth Historical Census Tracts 1940-2000 
  • Census tract boundary files for the Dallas Fort Worth area from 1940 through  2000. The 1940 through 1980 files include associated attribute data from the US Census of Population. Files are zipped by decade and contain a README file with additional information.

File Access

Files listed here are available via  drive mappings [ GISData on 'Charlotte' ] in the Green Microcomputer labs in GR 3.206 and GR 3.602. Other users  on the UT-Dallas campus network may also access these files with appropriate drive mappings.  They are also accessible via the web at ftp://charlotte.utdallas.edu/gisdata/  However, they have not been optimized for web access. For example, multiple files may need to be downloaded for useable results and files in ESRI coverage format cannot be downloaded in a readable form. 

• NTGISC: North Texas GIS Consortium data including high resolution digital terrain model and digital ortho photos for 1995 and 1997 covering the core of the Dallas/Fort Worth region.

• UsgsDRG: US Geological Survey digital raster graphs for North Texas area 

• TxDOQQ: USGS digital ortho quarter quads for Dallas/Fort Worth region 

Do not download these files to lab machines. It fills the local disks. Instead, use drive mapping.
